In reflecting on these words from scripture about service, we are reminded that all of us are called to serve one another in some way. Jesus is our greatest example; He who humbled himself and emptied himself out for our sake and said to us, "Love one another as I have loved you."
The Altar Server ministry is an incredible way for our young parishoners to hear the calling of our Lord to serve Him in His Church and our parish community; to give of their time and attention to participate in the Mass in a beautiful communal way while also promoting indivdual spiritual growth.
I am continually humbled, honored and encouraged by all of our young Altar Servers at St. Catherine's who are devoted to this ministry and make the commitment week after week; serving as a great visible example to all parishoners.
Pope St. John Paul II in his general address to Altar Servers stated:
"Therefore in the liturgy you are far more than mere 'helpers of the parish priest.' Above all, you are servants of Jesus Christ, the eternal High Priest. Thus you altar servers especially are called to be young friends of Jesus. Strive to deepen and foster this friendship with him. You will discover that in Jesus you have found a true friend for life.”
Sincerely in Christ,
Stephen Babula Altar Server Coordinator
